-Basic Massage Program-

We are offering a new introductory course. It runs only 4 weeks and costs only $490. By taking this course, you can discover if you like doing massage without spending a lot of time and money in school. You can learn to work on friends and family, start a new hobby, or learn basic skills and benefits of massage if you are already a medical professional. You will gain a knowledge of basic massage theory, benefits and the “hands on” skills to perform relaxation massage.

-Ethical Massage Practitioner Certificate-

Four months in length, one day a week in class. Class days are either on a Wednesday or a Saturday. One day or the other, not both. This is a State Approved and Registered Certificate program authorized by the State Board of Career Colleges and Schools in Columbus- #03-11-1692T. This Certificate program gives you the hands-on skills to find a job, full or part-time, or to start your own business. You will learn and practice Swedish massage thoroughly and get an introduction to Reflexology,Polarity and the Kates Method. You will learn body mechanics which is important to keep your body working well while working on others. Without good body mechanics, you will last about a year or two in the business before your own body breaks down. Body mechanics also teaches small people to do a great deep massage. Size and strength are not required with proper body mechanics. You will also be taught some business skills to help you find a job or to open your own business. You will develop business cards, flyers and brochures so you can hit the ground running as soon as you graduate. We are very proud of the fact that 70 to 80% of our graduates are working in the massage industry either for others or in their own businesses. You will learn enough anatomy and physiology to do massage safely and to be able to answer most questions intelligently. However, this course is at least 80% “HANDS ON” teaching, not a lot of useless facts you will never use. And, you do NOT have to take the State Board Examination in Columbus.

- Kates Method-One day class.

Cost is $150 and is an introduction, to a method which “loosens the body and eases pain, painlessly”. Discovered and developed by Jeff Kates,LMT,ABP and Director of the school. This awesome technique is not taught anywhere else and can help couples or your friends and family to stay loose and pain free instead of growing old and crooked with age. The Kates Method can be given with your person fully clothed for those who are shy about undressing. It can be done as a stand alone treatment or can be used to enhance any other modality you may already be doing.

-Kates Method 5 day class-

A much more detailed and extensive coverage of the Kates Method. This program will give the graduate the skills to loosen every part of the body and thus relieve pain. When the body loosens, circulation returns and pain will diminish by itself. You do not even need to know the source of the pain and it can be done safely on almost everyone. There is no force or heavy pressure involved so the treatment is painless for the person receiving it. In fact, the first rule of the Kates Method is, ” if it hurts, don’t do it”. People often fall asleep because they are so relaxed by the treatment, or they will comment that this or that movement feels so good it is incredible. The Kates Method is easy to learn and easy on the person doing it. If the full 5 day class is completed, the student can then obtain insurance to cover their treatments if they should decide to work outside of the circle of their friends and family. The cost of this program is only $750, unless you have already taken the one day course. If so, you will receive a $150 dollar discount, if the remaining 4 days are taken within months of the first class. You will get results with the Kates Method first time and every time. It can even help people with problems they have had for years and years. This technique is destined to revolutionize the treatment of people in pain who are stuck in their bodies and unable to move well anymore. You owe it to yourself to take the 5 day class. It is given one day per week, for 5 weeks in a row, or every other week for 10 weeks depending on what is more convenient.

- Advanced Bodywork Practitioner Certificate program-

One day per week for 6 months. Usually taught on a Sunday only from 9 to 5.

The program is a series of 5 distinct different styles of Bodywork, none of which are massage of massage therapy. The program can be taken all in a row, or taken one or two sections at a time as your money and time allows. When all 5 sections are completed, you will be issued the Advanced Bodywork Certificate which is Registered and Authorized by the State Board of Career Colleges and Schools in Columbus, # 03-11-1692T.

Several things make this program unique. First is that properly done,  all the techniques are both painless yet highly effective in loosening the body and easing pain.

Second is they are all systemic treatments which means the clients body is loosened from head to toe and not just in any particular area. Many people present with a pain in the low back, or the shoulders, or the neck and think that is their only problem. Nothing could be further from the truth.

All soft tissues of the body including muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia, are interwoven and connected to each other in a spider web fashion. That means you could twist your ankle and end up with headaches 6 months later as the injury twists and distorts the body from head to toe, slowly but surely. When you see an iceberg floating in the ocean, you see only the top 10% of the iceberg. The remaining 90% is hidden underwater. That is what sunk the Titanic Likewise when people present with pain they think is only in their neck or where ever the truth is that the neck and soft tissues mentioned before are all connected and a lot of neck pain actually originates in the low back or the hips, or legs.

So, treating one area only is treating a symptom, not solving the larger problem. Treatments must be systemic to give lasting, effective relief.

Then people must come in every 3 months or so to maintain their pain free condition. Like a car that needs its oil changed every 3 months, or the tires rotated from time to time, the human body needs maintenance from time to time because stress, injuries and life in general needs to be dealt with before it becomes a crisis.  People will spend thousands of dollars to maintain a car that no matter what will be on a scrap heap in 10 years or so.  And yet, they expect their body to be loose and pain free for 70 years or more without having to do anything. IF you look at it that way, does that even make sense? Of course not.

The first of the 5 techniques taught in the Advanced Bodywork Certificate program is the the Kates Method, which we have already described in detail. If you have already taken the 5 day Kates Method course, that would be credited towards the ABP program and you are already partially done.

The second technique is called Palpation Skills. This teaches the students to be able to locate tight or painful areas in the body by touch. These areas can the be loosened by light cross fiber of the muscles, tendons or ligaments involved, which allows the muscles to stretch back to their normal length. This allows bones and other connected tissues to return to their proper place without heavy painful pressure or high velocity manipulation like Chiropractic or Osteopathy. Thus the treatment is painless for the client rather than being a torturous hour of pain on the table, followed by days of pain and soreness for only a small gain in correction. The deep heavy painful pressure on trigger points, or knots as people call them, is completely unnecessary. practitioners wrists, hands and full body over time.

The Palpation skills are necessary to be able to move on to the next technique which is called Strain-Counterstrain. Most people just call it Counterstrain for short. This technique was discovered by Dr. Lawrence H. Jones,DO and is taught in seminar format across the country at various times. This is a great course if you have the time and money to invest in learning it the way it is taught by the Jones people. However, the basic technique involves a simple process of shortening the muscles or tissues involved and holding them for 90 seconds. This resets the nerves controlling that muscle and releases the spasm or knots, It is sort of like unplugging your computer so it reboots and then is working properly.

With the ability to find and feel the tight, trigger point areas of the body, it is easy to figure out how to shorten the involved muscles to get them to release and reset. That is why the Palpations Skills class is required first. In this way, Counterstrain can be taught effectively in a much shorter and more economical way, than taking each muscle,  one at a time, or sections of the body, one at a time, and spreading them out over many costly seminars, plus travel expenses.

The fourth technique taught is called Myofascial Release. The generally acknowledged discoverer and master of Myofascial Release is a man named John Barnes, who has people who teach seminars all over the world, and is headquartered in Sedona, Arizona. Barnes is a Physical Therapist who has gone far beyond what is normally taught to PT’S in developing his Myofascial Release system.

Fascia is a very tough and strong connective tissue that binds and supports and surrounds everything in the human body except the fluids like blood, lymph and bile. It literally surrounds all the bones, organs, nerves, body cavities, arteries and veins, skin, and even the Central nervous system together into a very complex web which is attached to every other solid surface in the body.

When muscles become injured or shortened by ongoing stress, the fascia can become distorted, twisted and hardens that way creating enormous pulling on the surrounding structures whatever they are. In that way, the body can become very distorted and can lead to Scoliosis, Kyphosis. Lordosis and the forward head position that leads eventually to the big hump in the upper back with the head way forward or facing down. At that point, people are usually using a cane, a walker or a wheelchair.

Most people think this is a normal part of growing old, but it is not. With proper care and maintenance, people can be tall, strong and erect until the day they pass. And Myofascial Release is a highly effective way to release these distortions before they become extreme.

Once again, the Barnes people are the acknowledged masters of Myofascial Release. However, they too break the body into a number of sections, or specific places of the body and teach that part in individual seminars which again involves lots of tuition, travel and meal expense.

In fact, Myofascial release is relatively easy to teach and learn and is the same basic technique everywhere in the body. So our approach is to teach the basics and as always, provide lots of practice so students can feel what they are doing through palpations skills rather than through a more cerebral approach. This saves tons of money and time and gives you an awesome skill which will help you to help others in a significant way.

The fifth and last element of the ABP Certificate program is called Structural Integration. Put simply, Structural Integration is a way of looking at people and seeing with your eyes if their posture is good or distorted in some way. For example, by observing how people walk, you can see if they have a hip stuck and not moving, or a foot that turns out or in. You can see if they lean at the waist to one side or the other, or if their head is off center on their body. You can tell if their low back is too flat, upper back is too humped, or their head is too forward and not directly over their shoulders.

Since we know that muscles ONLY PULL, it is only then a simple step to figure out which muscles or fascial areas are involved in creating this distortion. We can then use our other skills to correct the problem.

Many of the common problems people have are actually very easy to correct when treated properly. And once again, it is painless and non-invasive.
In short, the ABP Certificate program gives you many tools to help your clients which would cost thousands of dollars and lots of time to learn elsewhere, all in only 6 months.

Our graduates are always relating stories of how amazed their clients are by what they do, how it has helped them enormously and that no one else has ever helped them as much.

When you put together the EMP program and the ABP program, you have a one, two punch that prepares you for a career which is rewarding in many ways. you will have the skills to help people when no one else could and you will be well paid to do it,all in less than a year, and for many thousands less than a college degree. You owe it to yourself to check it out further. Come in for a tour or a one day class. We can prove what we say is true.
